UK Finance have released a helpful guide to banking for voluntary organisations, and the ICAEW have commented. We also recommend the ICAEW’s webinar covering the various legal forms of charities and other socially-motivated organisations.

We are a unique firm of chartered accountants and registered auditors organised as a workers co-operative. Although we only started in April 2017 we are growing very fast and there may be opportunities to be involved. We would be particularly interested to hear from you if you are already a qualified accountant (ACA or ACCA), but the most important qualification is a demonstrable commitment and involvement in co-operatives, charities or other forms of social enterprise. The pay is modest by industry standards but we constantly meet amazing people and we are having a meaningful positive impact. Join us if you want to make a difference.

Other things you need to know if you are interested:

– we are a training office, and all staff must either be in training towards the ACA qualification, or already be qualified to that level. In other words, if you are not qualified you need to be prepared to enter a training contract.

– we are a fully cloud based office, using cloud accounting software for all our needs; we are keen to lead digitally and encourage all our clients to adopt digital solutions.

– we have clients throughout the UK (but mainly in Manchester, Leeds, the South West and London) and you could live anywhere; but it’s best if you can attend meetings in person in Manchester occasionally.

March of the Mummies

Thousands of Mums took to the streets in cities across the UK today to demand the fairer treatment of Mums and families. Up to 54,000 new mothers are forced out of their jobs when returning to work from maternity leave (according to the European Human Rights Commission) You may have heard our friend and client, Joeli Brearley, talking about the discrimination tens of thousands of new Mums face each year on Radio 4’s Women’s Hour on Monday.

March of the Mummies – 31st October 2017

On Tuesday 31st October at 12 midday, families across the UK will march for better protections and support for mothers. Organised by Third Sector Accountancy client, The Motherhood Plan, the demonstrations will take place in 6 cities – London, Manchester, Belfast, Cardiff, Newcastle and Glasgow. People will dress up as mummies (the walking dead kind!) to represent the archaic legislation that is in place to protect working mothers, and of course it’s Halloween! marchofthemummies.com
